One family. One table. One meal. 350 years.
Right off the bat, the concept of this book drew me in. The rich narrative of Ellen Cooney's Thanksgiving tells the story of one family across many generations, all centered around the Thanksgiving holiday table. Each chapter's title takes its name from an ingredient or dish from the Thanksgiving meal, and tells the story of one generation of the Morley family, from Colonial times to the present-day. Sweeping family histories tend to be rather large tomes, but I feel that the author masterfully explores the history of the Morley family in a unique way in only 250 pages. With Thanksgiving, Cooney combines great writing with a novel concept, and provides the reader with an excellent holiday read.
