Day 6 - a book that makes you sad...

Stolen Lives: Twenty Years in a Desert Jail - Malika Oufkir

I read this book many years ago when it was an Oprah's Book Club selection, and the author's tragic story has really stuck with me all of this time.  As a child, Malika Oufkir led a life of privilege alongside the Moroccan royal family, but when she was 16 years old, her father was executed for attempting to assassinate the king.  Malika, her mother, and four siblings were subsequently arrested and spent the next 20 years in a Moroccan prison.  Her account of her years in the desert prison is both heart-breaking and eye-opening.
