Without You, There is No Us is an unsettling account of the author's time spent as a teacher in North Korea. The tension felt by the author as she was constantly under surveillance by minders, counterparts, guards, and even her own students, was palpable. The idea that your every word (both written and spoken) and every action will be monitored, assessed, and critiqued is disturbing to say the least. 3 1/2 stars
